The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called for stronger institutions, deeper regional cooperation, and greater professionalism as the bedrock for good governance and national stability in Nigeria and across Africa.
Badaru made the remarks while delivering the graduation lecture for Course 33 at the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja. He emphasised that lasting progress can only be achieved through institutions, not individuals.
“Strong nations are built on strong institutions, not strong individuals,” he said.
The Minister explained that reforms and leadership appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda are geared towards ensuring accountability and professionalism across government sectors, particularly in defence.
While addressing graduating participants, Badaru urged them to view leadership as a trust, stressing the importance of integrity and leaving behind stronger systems.
He also applauded efforts by African governments, the African Union (AU), and ECOWAS in promoting governance, peace, and development. He urged African leaders to deepen cooperation in order to consolidate progress across the continent.
Badaru further commended President Tinubu for his continued support to the Armed Forces and the National Defence College. He also welcomed the contributions of Ghana’s former President Nana Akufo-Addo, noting that his lecture at the event would inspire the next generation of African leaders.
